Please join us for a special complimentary breakfast briefing on Knowledge Extraction. We'll discuss how Information Mapping® provides a unique solution for this challenging issue.
As 'Baby Boomers' retire from the workforce, they are taking know-how with them. More and more organizations are recognizing the need to capture this tacit knowledge before they leave.
Knowledge extraction is the process of capturing and documenting critical organizational knowledge that lives in the heads of individual personnel so it can then be used by others.
Personnel working within an organization develop a lot of know-how related to their job performance over time, and this knowledge is not necessarily documented in job descriptions or procedures.
When they leave the organization through retirement, or turnover, or restructuring, this accumulated knowledge leaves with them.
When new hires take on the role of the departed individuals, their productivity cannot be as effective as the previous individual: they lack the experience or unconscious skills or tacit knowledge related to the job. This tacit knowledge takes time and experience to acquire so it takes time for the new hire to get up to speed.
That time can be reduced if the unconscious skills have been extracted from the departing individual and documented for use by the new hire.
The tacit knowledge is then explicit knowledge that can be shared and used by others.
