Background on Information Mapping

Information Mapping was developed by Robert E. Horn while at Harvard and Columbia Universities in the 1960s. Horn

  • conducted research into how readers deal with large quantities of information, and
  • developed a standard approach for communicating information based on
    • learning theory
    • human factors engineering, and
    • cognitive science.

The method is based, therefore, on how the human brain actually reads, processes, remembers, and retrieves information.
